Takarazuka Opera

The Takarazuka is world famous for it's

fabulous stage productions. If one didn't

know any better, the performers were both men and women. Not so. They are all females who train for years and are an elite

group in the eyes of the Japanese. Below are some pictures taken during an all day

show. It starts in the morning, there's a lunch break, then the show again in the afternoon. That's from 50 plus years ago.

There is a web site for the Takarazuka but it's in Japanese. Only a few guys from Camp

Stafford made it to the opera in the early 50s.

The low, guttural voice of women playing  men's parts is amazing. Even more so in the ancient warrior parts.

The Camp Stafford personnel had a ball with the kids. They were very appreciative

and well behaved. Where did the Santa suit come from? Hard to know if the kids had been primed on the Santa bit and

Christmas. It was difficult to say good bye to the kids.
